This Is why automated cars need to be secured from hacking.

The latest cars, stuffed with technology that collects driving data and makes keys obsolete, are far “smarter” than older vehicles. However, all those features come at a cost when it comes to how easily hackers can infiltrate car computer systems.
Many companies like intel, ibm, McAfee and many are working on this.

This is fascinating. How do the hackers actually hack into the car? What techniques are they using?

Harshavardhan Kada are you considering " Real-time monitoring of the vehicle’s status and operation." as your first step in this project? If so – how do you plan to guide your team to accomplish these goals for the contest?

Hii Steven,

In this video these two hackers are very intelligent to hack a car through GPS. All you want is an internet connection in your home and hacking skills then you can literally connect through any car on the world and hack it.

The reason why cars get hacked these days is that every day cars are becoming more smarter. All smart cars are directly connected to GPS 24/7. So this is a real security problem for all the automotives like cars, buses, heavy load trucks.

In this video the guy literally gets all the information about all the cars connected to GPS.
He can get GPS coordinates, along with a vehicle identification number, make, model, and IP address, appears on the laptop screen.
Miller plugs its GPS coordinates into Google Maps to reveal that it’s cruising down a highway in Texarkana, Texas. He keeps scanning, and the next vehicle to appear on his screen is a Jeep.

There are millions of vehicles literally have a microcontroller and a GPS module. The whole car Is controlled by simple microchip. If you are able to remotely access the car then it no longer listening to the driver. This is the real problem for up coming smart cars.

Thank you,
Harsha.

Hii Steven,

I am now working on connecting cars through GSM module. I thought of doing with WiFi or Bluetooth module but by doing with GSM module we have lot of advantage like you can control your car from anywhere. I am accomplishing this task.

Now I am working on interfacing car and GSM module.
Soon I will be uploading my work on real time monitoring of vehicles.
I am still thinking of improving some more good ideas on this.

Thank you,
Harsha.

This is a great idea so far. I think you should actively post on the main hackathon page Kandy myDevices Virtual iOT Pajama Hackathon! to find some teammates who can actually start to set up a repository and actively contributing to making this work with Kandy.

GSM module makes a ton of sense of course.

Looking forward to seeing that work. I think it makes the most sense to figure out how to maybe include kandy chat through the gsm request/response. So if the car needs to send the owner information – it can send a chat message. What do you think?

Hi Anton,

Thanks for advising me.
Even I also thought of posting my work on Kandy hackaton.
We are now working on GSM car monitoring. As your idea of GSM request/response was amazing.
I will soon let you know the status and progress of this project on Kandy hackaton.

Thank you,
Harsha.
