Question

Another project, which I am helping Shrey Fadia is SMART WHEELCHAIR which needs mechanical design insights.

We would like to know, what should be the motor torque and power to carry a human plus some extra weight carrying capacity for safety. For now, we have assumed the power of the motor to be 250W, is it good enough for a wheelchair? What are the other parameters we need to consider?

Since its a wheelchair safety is number one priority, what are the things we need to keep in mind as we design?

What’s the status of getting the motor and other parts to build the new prototype?

The important portion of selecting the motors and driver is almost done. Waiting for the confirmation from Manjunath sir.

Arduino with driver shield

Rest of the components would be those which are being used in the first prototype. Still, if I can get any, will upgrade my selection.

Jeeson Jolly Well, I have already thought about that, but since it would be highly sensitive and may be inaccurate, I disregarded it. Moreover, it may be expensive.
For an instance, let us consider the following situation:
A person wants to move in a right direction, he/she turns his or her eyes in that particular direction and wheelchair will move there. Now if one wants to just see around, wouldn’t wheelchair be confused whether which signals are to be taken as a person constantly keeps moving their eyes.

the control system can be made to activate only by blinking or something, but you’re right it might be expensive

Yeah Jeeson Jolly
Moreover, it may active by blinking your eyes but our eyes constantly keeps on blinking! The control system can be made you are right but it would be so complicated that you feel like implementing other feature replacing this one! Haha! 😂
