IDEA

As mentioned the lead will be using a microcontroller so Video surveillance is out.
Now what we can do is use motion sensors. If the shop is an average one then number of motion sensors usage will be less. The controllers will be connected to both GSM module and the sensors.
As soon as any distubance is detected the microcontroller will trigger the gsm and send a message or something to the owner. OR what we can do is to connect the gsm to a server which will process the data (if there is a breach disturbance) and accordingly set the alarm on the owner’s phone. The app will always be polling the server state (Dont know much about the app though) and as soon as something happens the app will get an alarm code and start to buzz/alarming sound on the phone itself so as to wake up the owner even when he is in deep sleep.
There will be other “features” to it viz sending sms, calling police(dont know if it will work), calling out to the security guard (chowkidaar kind of) or something like those.
The implementation is simple and could be done using parsing the gsm data.

If there is other motion detection scheme then the best one will be chosen.

Yes I understand what you are telling me. Now I wrote that post keeping in mind that the shop is less than an average shop. I will update the physical dimension or equivalent model to give you an idea about the shop. Yes for a Wide open space Motion sensors can be used at different places and For windows(Not OS lol) Laser sensors would just be fine specially an array of laser sensors. Array of laser sensor to cover the whole window. All the sensors should be concealed to avoid a smart thief to disable them.
NOW AS FAR AS MALLS are concerned, We have to upgrade from microcontroller to a SINGLE BOARD COMPUTER which will be running OPENCV. Opencv have a a wide array of algos/features that could be used in this type of application. I choose SBC because I want it to be stand alone. Opencv could also be installed on A stand alone Pc OR maybe OWNER’S pc just to detect a breach. The OPENCV library have a motion detection algorithm which will detect motion in dark(never done it though) So we need to modify the OPENCV to communicate with a standalone controller to control the alarm/gsm module. I think the SBC could also do that. In short We could use Image processing to detect a breach for larger than average shops and malls. Let me know your thoughts.

Okay. Nice Idea. Need more ideas. Is the project in progress or just about to start?
I very much understand you Aman. Yeah, image processing that brings in the idea of the camera module.

Yes a camera module. Because SBCs have inbuilt USB Port, a simple USB Camera could also be used. If multiple point surveillance is needed, a USB Hub could connect other cameras. The only downside is the cost will go up, but mall owners are rich right?
Don’t know about the project status. The team leader hasn’t made any move yet. So I can t say …
