QUESTION
  ·  Mark as Answered

Wanted to get the community to weigh in on this, in another thread Bi Sh was talking about the setup for Collaborizm notifications:

Is there any difference between “ACTIVITY FEED” and “Discussion Notifications”?
Its better to Use Different Tools to achieve different purpose…
Regarding "Discussion Notification"
What we get is not recent comments… its better to show recent comments and Click options for past threads… will save time and help to focus… Thanks!

(Bi Sh the difference with news feed is that notifications show only conversations that you are involved in or that are in your projects. )

Would everyone prefer either.

  1. Discussion Notifications keep the general structure, but the addition would be that the newest replies you haven’t yet viewed would have a colored border around them so you can see what’s new and have context to the rest of the conversation if you’ve forgot what it was about.

or

  1. Discussion Notifications change to ONLY show the most recent comments , and would NOT include the discussion thread, when you click on the notification comment, you would be taken to another page dedicated to the full view of that thread

I choose Option 2 : The rationale for it is that I personally would remember the conversations I’m going back and forth in so I don’t need the context of a full thread. I also don’t mind clicking on it to go to a new page for the full thread, the trade off is worth it to not be able to reply to a conversation right inside the notifications if it means notifications are easier to scan through and easier to understand.

some thoughts…

  1. Labeling the Threads as Seen or not seen will definitely help… extra helpful information…
  2. First View Content: on Top: Discussion Origination Thread (Question, Idea or any… ) and the most Recent Comments… how many? or how much? some single comment might be few page long… would it be better to Trim… if its very long… only Few lines…
  3. Second View Content: @Anton Volt… New full discussion thread page sounds good… how bout some filtering options… like Hide or Delete… if the Project Leader thinks comments are irrelevant or not appropriate etc…
  4. Keeping First Persons comments… as in the timeline… will be better i think… because we might forget our own comments after some time… some threads continues even after months…

about Tagging @ and Contribution + #BugReport
It is not consistent… doesnt work most of the time…
sometimes loads quickly but most of the time very slow… have to wait few seconds before it pops up… just continue typing after @ or + doesn’t associate the Tag…

(Bi Sh
I recently pushed some code which tells you how many notifications are new, so if a thread has 4 total replies, and you’ve only seen 2 of them before, it should say something like this in the notification: 4 replies (2 NEW)

As far as the tagging, we know it needs to be fixed however there are other critical development tasks me and Robert Lancer need to finish first.

I go for option 1 as the visual effect works faster
