It was my B.Tech 3rd year and I was at home during the vacation. A phone call from one of my branch’s faculty member came to me, his name is Suryanarayan Mohanty which pretty much changed mine and Jagannath’s life. He told me about one of his friend during the college days and he happens to be our college senior, 2008 batch of same branch. He told that one of his friend named Girija Sankar Mishra need people to work with him on exciting projects and told me to meet him within a week. So I told my friend Jagannath Sahoo about the conversation and we went to meet him. The meeting was at an Incubation center called OCAC Tower, Bhubaneswar. He said us to be seated in the lobby and we’ll call you. Then one by one he called us and we started discussing about us our ideas and his ideas etc. etc.
After everything was over I came to realize that we just gave an Interview (Lol!! XD… Completely unprepared interview).
It was June 6th we first started to work together and discuss current scenario of market and technology. Worked on a project with some other company and then realized that we were a good team so we started to think of why don’t we start our own company to work on our dream projects. So within two months of time we completed all the formalities required to register our name with MSME as a company with the name “EPSUMLABS” (Jagannath gave the name).
As it was a startup we do not have enough funds to pour into our Research and Development but whatever we have we still invest them into R&D. We never ever want to be another conventional company which works from 9am to 5pm on routine tasks and then back to home. Our motto is to create a difference in society by targetting and delivering low cost products and services to general public and cutting edge low cost technology solutions to Industry and take initiatives to educate and improve people’s life. So we chose to work on Software Development(Desktop and Mobile), Automation(Home and Industrial), Embedded Systems and Trainings. During this course of time we made a lot of mistakes, like unplanned development(project was completed though but took way too much time), not setting a deadline etc… With every mistake we made and failure we committed we gained a lot of experience that how development actually works in real life, what is development life cycle, how to manage time etc. which are very critical for survival.
At present we are trying to raise our funds to pour it into R&D and because they are just dead funds which would have no returns, which cannot be borrowed from bank as we need to pay it back, although some amount is being borrowed to setup an office, and all these funding and stuff are handled by Girija sir. Me and Jagannath are primarily focused on development. So currently we are handling 3rd party projects to raise our funds by ourselves. We tried approaching angle investors through an online website… But Lol to fund us they need around 18000 INR to be deposited… I didn’t understand what kind of logic is that.😕 All of our projects are in developmental stage… If we could have our funds earlier we could have used it to learn new technologies a lot more faster and buy 3D printer and PCB Machine and work on our projects, but to raise our funds ourselves our own projects are bit postponed as all of them are mostly hardware based (power electronics and embedded systems) which needs a lot of time investment and money.
Another part of story. Parents opposition.
I have a good academic career. So my parents want me to pursue M.Tech (which is my desire also but not presently) and get into government jobs. So I got a lot of opposition after I was done with my B.Tech final Semester exams to not to get into the startup stuff and that was wholly because of the fear of failure but I didn’t want to loose this opportunity to be an Entrepreneur. So after a lot of discussions and headaches I with Girija Sir was able to convince them…
Collaborizm has made me learn a lot and helped me keep myself motivated and taught me how to manage resources and how to organise ideas and execute them which helps me work in my company efficiently. Thank you Steven Reubenstone Robert Lancer Anton Voltchok for all your efforts for building this community… I was able to learn a lot from people like Harsha Alva Ranjan Dailata Abhi Verma John Rodrigues Areous Ahmadtj Narendran Ashok Ravi Pujar Suraj Parasuram which is constantly helping me to build my better self… Thank you guys!!
Presently we are a team of 12 members and we need power electronics and embedded system people to get our work done faster and release it to general public so people who want to join us and lend hands are always welcome, through Collaborizm project which is yet to be posted. I consider Collaborizm as my only blindly trusted resource :-)
Thank you :-)
