I am thinking to build a IVRS based system which will talk and ask which device you need to turn on and off and it will control the relays accordingly, you press a button or number on call dialpad to generate DTMF tones and it will turn on or off the device and give audio confirmation . May be 8 channel relays on board will be controlled by a MCU.
It will have SD card which will have audio recordings which can be configured like, which to play after which button press by a bluetooth app similar to VALTRACK-V2 setup app.
A ready example is here, but doesn’t have audio response. Adding audio conversation would be the plus point.
The reason for this is i felt today we got free outgoing calls on our recharge packs and the whole process would not cost us any extra dime. On the other side Internet controlled devices cost us as the receiving device need to connect to server and listen for commands, where as incoming calls are free.
May be we can build this on a Arduino compatible controller and programmable by Arduino IDE.
I think i can build this and it would cost <Rs.1000 ($15 USD) in part cost.
What do you guys think?
OK! Cool Project for establishing smart energy meters. But when we will implement this for smart energy meters, the electricity supplier need to pay for sim charges. Right? Is there anything where they are free of these charges…Ravi Pujar

Its not intended for energy meters. But it can be used for reading from energy meters with audio response if you want free data out from the device. We can make a mp3 player announce the reading on a call.
