Hi all innovative minds on collaborizm. This project needs your valuable suggestions for all the possible ways to convert a diesel engine to run on bio-gas(methane).The calorific value of methane lies between petrol and diesel so it can be successfully used as fuel.

@Devdatta Kulkarni… the torque depends on compression ratio. if a methane engine is running on same CR as diesel engine then it will produce similar torque.
the problem starts right here that all existing methane engines are SI engines while diesels are CI’s. so most of the people convert diesel engines into SI methane fueled engine by reducing the CR by half(approx) which leads to torque loss of 45-50%.

Ashwarya Narayan Ish You will need to find a very, very creative way to retrofit a diesel engine for methane-only fuel! The basic difference is that methane or dual-fuel engines need sparked ignition (a spark plug) but diesels use compression to heat the fuel to the ignition point. Another important difference is the nature of the fuel itself since a duel fuel engine would need to handle both liquid and gaseous fuels. If you continue, you’ll want to look carefully at how each type of engine functions. Consider the entire lifecycle of the process, from how the fuel will be sourced all of the way through to the resulting motive power at the wheel. It will also speed things up greatly if you can find a really good automotive engineer to help you. Best of luck!

exactly u need to study about all the point not only compression ratio,but also the fuel calorific value,availability of fuel where u gonna use it in area,and design accordingly the design of engine,component availability of components and etc…u need to study a lot about fuel cycle,whether to spark or self ignition,where to spark(%).etc but good idea work on it u will succeed for sure.do some market survey
