QUESTION
Open

Hey guys! I’m interested in learning more about mesh networks. I’ve read a few articles about it and checked out nyc mesh, but would like to dive a bit deeper. Does anyone have any suggestions for required reading/technical papers about this subject?

Grace I think I know what you are referring to. Let me point you to a couple of articles I’ve happened upon one of them dealing the security aspect of it http://www.sans.org/reading-room/whitepapers/access/survey-wireless-mesh-networking-security-technology-threats-33627 and another giving a bit of an “overview” http://meshdynamics.com/documents/MDThirdGenerationMesh.pdf

I’m also interested in mesh networking from a security aspect so I try to do some research in my spare time as well as look for small projects involving this. If you want leave a post and I could bounce some some ideas off as well as give you links to references.

Nischal Khadka I was referring more to this: https://nycmesh.net/

Harrison Owens thank you!! That is exactly what I am looking for. I would also be down to work on some small projects. Do you have any in mind? I kind of wanted to flash some routers with https://github.com/opentechinstitute/commotion-router and play around with them.

Shinger Hsu I went to a few talks about this kind of stuff last fall and have been interested ever since.

Grace Tan – how is a mesh network different than what I know about the current internet infrastructure? Like…i know that each http request/response travels through the “path of least resistance” through many routers across the world to get to its destination…I am just trying to understand the difference or are these the same beasts?
