Would also recommend using Postgres over Mongo. With JSONB datatype and the new full text search for JSON and JSONB you really have no need to use a document database. We’re actually implementing all new functionality in Postgres.

Robert Lancer Hey Robert, don’t be mean to “MEAN” stack 😃 (just kidding you). The thing you mentioned with React is called “MERN” stack, is also very popular. Postgres supporting JSONB is good but it cannot replace any of the NoSQL DB’s.

RDBMS and NoSQL are totally different in terms of architecture, use cases etc. Both have their own pros and cons. Please read on how craigslist is using MongoDB - https://www.mongodb.com/post/15781260117/mongodb-case-study-craigslist

Any case studies since Postgres added full jsonb support? Its hard to say that Postgres isn’t the best document database right now and won’t be a contest when full text search is available in version 10 for json. Also if your app needs transactions and relational features (key for us building out our financial record handling) it’s great to have access to the classic SQL features.

I don’t want to sound like a unbiased Postgres fan but after using and researching databases extensively I can’t find a better choice of database to use these days.

A well timed post on the return to SQL https://blog.timescale.com/why-sql-beating-nosql-what-this-means-for-future-of-data-time-series-database-348b777b847a, I’ll actually be posting something soon about how we are merging our NoSQL and SQL databases with GraphQL.
