QUESTION
  ·  Mark as Answered

I hope this is the right place to write suggestions to improve this site.

First of all, please add an alternative sign up method. I hope you know that only people from about 5 countries actively use Facebook. Basically, you’re excluding a lot of people from even joining the website for no particular reason. If creating a sign up is not a possible option, please consider adding google sign in as well.

By the way, I don’t understand, while signing up we get only one option.

But while logging in, we get 3 options !?

Is this because the site is still under construction. If it is, I’m really sorry. But I’m not blaming you guys, I’m just suggesting how to make this a better site.

Another thing is, it’s really difficult to browse inside a project, it’s like a small amount of useful info is cramped up in between a lot of useless stuff. I think these things should be segregated. I can see that there’s an option for viewing comments based on tags, but I think the first thing that should be visible on the comment section should be progress (progress of the project). Obviously if we want to read anything else, we can browse to that section. But personally I think, the first thing I’d want to see would be the existing milestones and how many of them are completed. I think it’ll be best if you divide the screen into at least 2 parts with a vertical section, such that on the left you’d show a checklist, which shows the milestones and a tick on the ones that are completed.

If you already have these features and/or are already working on it, sorry for wasting your time.

Love your thought process on how the project should be laid out and what you’d expect to see. Great ideas on the milestones, also thank you for the layout suggestion, really helpful, I’m actually going to make a new post in a bit because I want to dig deeper into them

Jackson Garthener … WOW … you have absolutely nothing to apologize for, if we had a 100 people like you taking the time to think things through and make great suggestions / give useful feedback, internally we’d have a lot less to talk about because we’d heard everything we needed to straight from the people in the community.

Collaborizm

So here’s a little background, this is the 2nd version of Collaborizm, the 1st version was meant to test out an idea Steven Reubenstone had in his head , turns out a lot of people liked that idea, it eventually grew to be too many for the prototyped version 1 to handle the load. The reason for the 2 different logins was essentially backwards compatibility of version 1.

Collaborizm V2 was built over again from scratch to be able to scale to a much larger audience, however it is only me and Robert Lancer (platform architect) as the 2 developers, and you as a web dev looking around I’m sure can see how massive of a workload that is for 2 people. (we have more React components than I can count… hundreds… literally I had to stop counting haha).

So having a Desktop app, mobile web app, and Android app, native push, web worker push notifications, maintaining bug fixes across everything, etc… stretches us pretty thin, so the decision was made to lock it down to Facebook temporarily to avoid spending time on building / managing multi login. (Where did you get that statistic by the way of the 5 countries mainly using Facebook? I’ve seen people from 12 countries in a single thread solving a problem together, that being said if there is some statistics that shows Facebook usage that you’re talking about please post it, we will 100% take it under consideration)

Jackson Garthener on this project: Arduino Fan Powered Delivery Car scroll down to just above the Discussion Section and you’ll see a card “Project Outline & Progress” – this one I filled out…how does this card effect your perception of this project? Is this what you’re looking for? Let me know your thoughts. Appreciate your help.

Anton Voltchok, I think you guys should’ve started mobile development after finishing the Desktop app. I don’t think there was any urgency to actually go for the mobile app right now.

About Facebook, what I meant was, only about 5 countries actually use facebook in their everyday lives. You can see statistics the statistics in Alexa if you want, below is the link.
http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/facebook.com

Apart from that, other countries have their own social networks, obviously in their own language. For example, the most popular social network in Russia is Vk.com, which is also a prominent social network in many other European countries. Other countries also have their own social networks.

Also, one other thing I’d like you to work on, is the projects itself. There are a lot of projects which are not at all being updated. You should either change the group leader of the project to someone who’s still interested in the project (if the leader has lost interest) or you should archive those projects until there is any proper reply from any of the users on the project. Since this is a new site, people browsing the site would feel this is a dead site looking at all the dead projects. Another thing you could do is collaborate projects. I can see that there are many projects which have almost similar targets, if those projects are collaborated, the number of dead projects might decrease atleast a bit.

Steven Reubenstone, thats exactly what I’m talking about. The only change being, it’s current position is a bit too low. Milestones is like a shorter version of the description itself. It allows people to know the specifics of a project just by having a look at it. Also it gives an idea on how the users can contribute on the project.

This is just a simple layout I made in paint, for you guys to better understand what I’m saying. Obviously it’s just a suggestion :p
