India is facing a cooling crisis. Annual sales of air conditioning systems in India will double between today and 2030. The amount of energy India uses for cooling will grow tenfold between now and 2050. This energy use will increase the emissions from power plants, driving additional global warming. (See the “Additional Info” section below for more on the background of these issues.)
The huge demand for cooling in India creates a significant opportunity for entrepreneurs who can disrupt the traditional air conditioning paradigm. The Cool India project on Collaborizm is one of these disruptive innovations (https://www.collaborizm.com/project/SJVLyK2uZ). This project is bringing to market an open-source wearable personal cooling system that is low-cost, light weight and runs using a small amount of power.
