GENERAL

Python is fun and interesting but for complete beginners and people with little experience with C/C++, the syntax may seem quite confusing (sometimes frustrating too as it happened with me at first)… So for those who are complete beginners, these are some of the quick notes to remember.

  • Indentation : Blank spaces or Tab which represent and distinguishes a block of code
  • Python use ’ : ’ in place of ’ { } ’ for representing blocks (so don’t get confused here especially for C/C++/Java users)
  • Python don’t need data types to be declared along with variable name like in C/C++/Java
just write the name of the variable with initial value and you are done.

These are some quick notes to start with so that beginners get some pre-req, info …
Experienced users and programmers share some of your experience as well, which you’ve faced while working with python…
This discussion is general and purpose is to get everyone even beginners to involve here…

There are a lot of resources for python on the www. python-course.eu is cool and codeacademy would help too.
Like every other programming language, the data structures and control statements are the topmost priority. Then comes understanding the several abstractions.
As python is an Object Oriented Language (yes, everything is an object, first class everything), whilst writing python, it is good to think in the OOP way. One would better not bother much about this abstractions however when writing python in the procedural or functional paradigm.
Any challenges encountered while getting familiar with the language can be posted here, we’ll all learn together.
