App Development #dontfup

I’ve been working on an app idea of mine for a while now. I’m at the point where I have a business plan, a list of important functions, and detailed wireframes. The problem is that I can’t afford a developer on my own. I’ve tried partnering with multiple people but most of them don’t have the same passion as I do and aren’t willing to make the investment. I’m currently at the point where Im taking a class on Udemy so that I can learn React-Native and build a very basic version of the app on my own.

I feel this is the best way to make development affordable. However, I’m also afraid because there is a guy my age who just developed a very similar app himself. He clearly has the first mover advantage. I truly believe I can make it better and give him a strong edge on the business side, but I’m afraid if I ask for a partnership he either won’t be interested or won’t give me as much equity as I’d like. My current initiative is to keep learning React Native and trying to make a basic version on my own. I would love to here any suggestions from the community. Where am I fucking up? What should should I do from here?
