I am collecting the parts and pieces to build an automated ammonia detector for an aquaponic / hydroponic garden.
Hydroponic gardens use 3% to 5% of the water that traditional farms use to grow vegetables use. So this type of farm can grow food any where including areas that are in drought conditions. Even places like the Sahara and Gobi deserts.
I can grow a symbiotic garden and aquaculture system and maintain absolute control of the quality of my fish and vegetables. The fish supply nutrients for my greenhouse garden, and the garden cleans and purifies the water for the fish.
Are you worried about ocean fish and pollution?
My project now is to build an automatic ammonia detector that will take a water sample add a chemical wait 5 minutes then shine a light through the sample and measure the water samples color.
There are detectors that cost $200 or $300 and more, however I’m using an Arduino Uno for less than $50. This is my first Electronics project since 1994 when I graduated college.
