John RodriguesA few things you should know when using TEMs for the coffeeBot:
- TEMs will take as much current as they can get, so you will need to limit their draw on the battery. You can have this be code that manages a programmable pin to do pulse width modulation (PWM) via a MOSFET, for example.
- You will want to spread the heating or cooling from the TEM across the surface of the cup using something like an aluminum plate attached to the TEM with heat-conductive tape.
- You’ll need to add a heat sink to the TEM and a fan for getting rid of the heat. The heat sink will need to taped to the TEM with heat-conductive tape.
- TEMs reverse their heat exchange when current is reversed. So you can switch between cooling and heating using a dual-pole / dual-throw (DPDT) switch.
