QUESTION
Open

What are some cost-effective marketing strategies we can use on this level of our startup?

Our startup is Repairer which is an on-demand repair service where we get your damaged products repaired for you as fast and as cheap as possible. https://hammadn.wixsite.com/repairer

We’ve initially launched in our hometown Moradabad on June 5 this year.

Some of the strategies we have tried are WhatsApp messaging friends and friends of friends, going door-to-door distributing our visiting cards and explaining them about our service, newspaper inserts and running a small facebook ad campaign but all these strategies have managed to provide us just 5 users so far.

Please suggest some cheap and cost-effective marketing strategies which can prove to be highly effective.

Hammad best thing for you would be to be featured on YourStory. Also since you are only offering the service in one town today, maybe the demand for such services may require a different marketing approach such as appearing on a local radio show, maybe, or you can do a small town hall. But feel free to whatsapp me on +919902054222 and we can continue our discussion. I would love to understand what you do before posting a marketing strategy on this discussion board.

Hammad I am glad we spoke today. You have to figure out the merits of a market place model versus having handy men on your roles. The challenge is that these handymen India have a problem of maintaining and executing quality service level agreements. It is very difficult to monitor them because they don’t care what platform they are on as long as they make money. The problem is you cannot set processes for them because they do not care about quality service. They have customers calling them on the phone in their vicinity for business. They just don’t care what apps or internet can do to their business. You have to narrow down to a few handy men who have the network and they wield an iron whip in the network and therefore you ensure great service. You have to incentivise these powerful handymen.
