I have decided to use:

  1. Ultrasonic or Sharp IR sensor (whichever gives better results) mounted on a servo motor.
  2. A Raspberry Pi for running the algorithm on.
  3. A standard four wheel dc motor driven chasis.

Need suggestion which module should be used for wireless communication between the robot and PC.

processing software could be used to map the 2D (easy to code too)… Ultrasonic is suggestable… and y 4 wheels… 2 wheels and one castor wheel type saves cost… i ve made a mini super car… where i had put in all the sensors LDR,Ulrasonic distance measuring sensor,IR track follower too besides servo for sliding doors… and also bluetooth controlled… variable speed… headlights on as the darkness is sensed… automatic stop if distance is less than 8 cm… and motion controlled by phone…

Krishh Sai Yes I agree that 2 wheels and a caster will be much better option. The second thing, most importantly, I have no idea which processing software to use. Can you please mention a few options for this task?

Shan Hassan I have added you to the team. You have mentioned you are a programmer. I want you to mention the solution to this problem. What software to use for processing the data and displaying a 2D map of the room.

Shaswat Saxena Thank you for your input. Xbee’s prove to be quite costly but I think I can arrange a pair for this project. But can Wireless Communication Module – NRF24L01+ 2.4G, work in this case? It will be highly cost-effective.

bro you can approach this project using an arduino, probably the easiest way. i am attaching a link of my project which is quite similar to# yours. it can help us to devise an optimal solution.
