HelmetSmart is a technology company that encourages motorcyclists in India to wear helmets to eliminate preventable traffic-related deaths and injuries. We provide a ‘Fitbit’-type device to attach onto motorcycle helmets that tracks helmet-wearing and motorcycle-riding behavior. We make that data available to insurance companies and corporations to allow them to incentivize safe riding behavior.
Teammates & Contributors I’m Looking For
Software developers and data scientists interested in helping develop the mobile application and analytics dashboard for corporate clients.

Why Sponsor This Project?
In India, traffic-related accidents kill over 150 thousand people every year and leave over half a million injured or disabled. In 2010, 32% of all road fatalities were motorcyclists, of which 76% sustained head injuries. Wearing helmets can reduce the risk of severe injury by 72% and the risk of death by 39%, however, few motorcyclists in India wear helmets.
We want to address this problem by offering people financial incentives to empower them to make the right decisions about their safety.
What’s in it for people who join?
Our team is made up of passionate individuals who care about road safety and want to make a difference in this area. Let us know if you want to get involved!
Why I’m Passionate About This Project
During my travels across Southeast Asia and India, I noticed the deep disregard for road safety in developing countries. I was inspired to address this problem with the use of technology and create HelmetSmart. I believe social entrepreneurship is a powerful tool for changing the world.
